ABOUT MOWBRAY COLLEGE
Mowbray College is located in the Rajapihilla Mawatha overlooking the Kandy Lake on a sprawling campus of nearly 6 acres. The College is perched in the beauty of the Kandyan hills and surrounded by a diverse nature which itself has become a living laboratory. The natural surrounding environment is rich both in animal and plant life which umbrellas several organism species. This resource has provided space for many educational activities such as inculcation in the learning process, eco conservation, promotion of artificial waste reduction and several informative projects. This natural phenomenon adds a soothing atmosphere to the college community life and it develops an ethic of appreciation and calm away from the hustle of the busy outside. The school itself is equipped with all modern facilities including play ground, staff quarters, auditorium, hall, parking, laboratories, support infrastructure and accommodation with a special emphasis on hostel education owing to its past as a primarily select boarding school which was made their home by several hundreds of young ladies from all across the island.
The current Principal is Mrs. Manoranjani Kingsly (M.Sc. in Organizational Management – University of Peradeniya, BA – University of Peradeniya, Dip. in Education – OUSL) who has been at the helm from the year 2020 onwards. She is also a past student of Mowbray College. The vibrant educators, some of them with over three decades of expertise joined by the newer entrants, make the ideal fusion needed for the maintenance of the Mowbray ethic pertaining to Curricular, Co Curricular and Extra Curricular activities.
The school provides a Pre School which provides an orientation and all round education for children below five years and maintains the Primary School with a strong emphasis on English and Information Technology studies. The Secondary students from Grade Six onwards switch to the Bilingual Medium continuing the strong emphasis on languages and other subjects. The school provides Advanced Level Education in Language, Commerce, Arts, Science, Technology and the General streams with all new subject combinations being made possible. Mowbray College stresses on a student centred education with personalized attention due to smaller sized class numbers and has in the past few years guaranteed a no tuition approach which has yielded over expected results with students being successful at examinations as well being well rounded in character.
The Private School Tradition which centres on holistic education provides several sporting facilities such as Athletics, Swimming, Tennis, Netball, Table Tennis, etc., amongst which the students have achieved provincial and national acclaim. Mowbray College, owing to its historically cultural approach, has maintained an overarching prominence in the arts such as Carnatic Music, Baratha Natyam, Tamil Drama and Literature, while inculcating elements such as Kandyan Dancing, Girl Guiding, Interact Club, Western Choir and Western Band. Owing to the school’s spiritual roots it engages in religious education on a day to day basis with the accent on festivals and outreach programmes.
